Two people will be required as described. Some possible phrases that can be used are: (We use four different words here because each word might bring up different answers for different persons. One can use the four words together or alternately or use one word for a few minutes and then do on to the other words.) 1. I feel guilt, shame, self-doubt or self-rejection when .... 2. They have programmed me to feel guilt, shame, self-doubt or self-rejection when .... 3. My inner child has been programmed to feel guilt, shame, self-doubt or self-rejection when .... 4. In the past I have felt guilt, shame, self-doubt or self-rejection when... 5. That which I would like to hide from others is ... 6. That which I would like to hide from God (imagine that you actually can) is .... These six phrases can be used for about five minutes each as they might bring up different revelations. Remember that, in this technique, the subject should keep repeating the phrase, even when he or she does not have an answer in mind, and allow the answer to flow out by spontaneously. The subject should not be silent for over a minute. Also it is perfectly all right to repeat the same answer more than once. This has significance. As a result of this exercise we will have a list of reasons why we or our inner child have felt these emotions in the present or past. We can also go back and check our answers to those questions in the chapters on Self-acceptance and Healing the Inner Child so as to discover the stimuli of the past and present which cause self doubt, shame or guilt and then move on through the process described below.
