EXERCISES FOR RECREATION,
SELF KNOWLEDGE AND UNITY No. 1
Throughout this book, we will present you with a series of exercises, experiences
and games that will help you discover more about yourself, your partner and your
relationship. Some exercises can be experienced alone. Others require that you
work together. If your partner is not willing, see what you can gain by performing
some of them alone.
You will gain much more from the book if you perform these exercises before moving
on to the next chapter. If, however, you prefer not to, you can simply read them,
be aware of their presence in this book, and come back to them when you feel you
are ready to benefit from them.
In each exercise, one of the two of you will be called "A" and the other
"B". It makes no difference who goes first.
EX. 1. BREATHING TOGETHER
This is a basic exercise for attuning to each other and relaxing together. You
can perform it whenever you want to discuss something important or just to get
in touch with each other. You will be using this as a preparatory exercise before
most other exercises.
a. Sit opposite each other and hold hands. As you inhale together, raise your
hands upward. As you exhale, allow your hands to come down together. With your
hands united, inhale as you raise your arms and hands, and as you exhale lower
them. Seek to find a rhythm of breathing as well as a movement that suits you
both.
b. Now share what you've experienced with your partner. Where did you have difficulty?
What did you enjoy? What did you discover? How did you feel?********************************
